We are OEM, a sock manufacturer, and we always receive the socks designs from clients, but many designing details are misunderstood sometimes, and we have to spend a number of efforts and time to communicate with our clients. Finally, we realize that we need a unified socks design template. We create a sock design template based on some of the materials we need. We hope to save more time and effort for our clients, of course, you can still use your own templates.

This design template is a quick socks designing approach, but not for all socks. Make sure that the following conditions are met before starting:
- You have downloaded the file of Socks Design Templates, if not, please download here.
- You have installed Adobe Illustrator on your computer.
- You know how to conduct Adobe Illustrator.
You can start when everything is ready.
1 Select the Socks Design Templates
We offer you the following five types of Socks Design Templates with different length, no show, ankle, quarter, crew, knee :
There are five folders, and each folder has two files: “Flat Design-xxx.ai” and “Design Preview-xxx.ai”, you can select anyone according your need.
2 Modify Flat Design
“Flat Design-xxx.ai” is the Flat Design, open this folder and you will see the following figure:
This Flat Design is to take the sock as a cylindrical shape and a rectangle when it is unfolded, so it will be more intuitive, and the following figure is marked the exact socks position corresponding to each point in the design drawing.
Now you can start designing your socks according to the contrasted figure. It is important to note that the socks are cylindrical which means the socks left and right edges must be connected in the Flat Design.
Wrong Design Example: Left and right edges of the design are not connected, so the back of the socks cannot be woven out of a continuous pattern, it will be misplaced.
Correct Design Example: The left and right edges are connected, so the perfect pattern can be woven out.
There are some other important points to pay attention to in the design:
- If you are not sure which color you should select, please reference our Correct Color Selection, and take a mono-color in the cuff and heel, please do not set any figure and words in there.
- Due to technical limitations, normally speaking, no more than seven colors on one sock. But, there is no limit for printed socks.
- Try not to put complex figures, characters, or logos in the cuff. Cuff is flexible, if a complex design is out there, the characters will be hard to read and some figures details will be blurred.
- The pattern on the socks is as simple as possible, and some complex patterns cannot be woven out, which will affect the elasticity of socks so that socks become difficult to wear and uncomfortable for feet.
Don't forget to save after designing.
3 Generate a Preview of Socks Supplement the data
Once you have finished the design in "FLAT DESIGN-XXX.AI," you can use illustrator open the "DESIGN PREVIEW-XXX.AI" in the same folder, and you will see a preview of the following image:
In the preview, the flat image is converted into a front, back, side, and plane view that are generated through the Flat Design and no need to be edited again.
You can modify your design according to the preview, and after you modify“FLAT DESIGN-XXX.AI”, “DESIGN PREVIEW-XXX.AI” will be updated by itself.
Now there is some other information for the supplement:
- Colors: provide the serial number of colors, Pantone is usually used, and if other international colors are used, please mark them.
- Note: some information that needs attention.
- NO: if you want more designs, please fill their serial numbers.
Finally, “DESIGN PREVIEW-XXX.AI” is exported as a pdf document, which includes all information and can be a complete design for socks.
Note: if you need better and more delicate design, you need a professional illustrator designer. This template is just a reference, you can modify it in any way you want or use your own socks template for designing, there is no limit on this, as long as you can clearly express your requirements.
